- Monday to Friday from 9am-5pm.
- Saturday 9am-12pm.
- Closed Sunday.

Dr Zeeshan Akram
Having previously studied Medicine in Pakistan, Dr Akram began working in Australia in 2011, initially in Cairns Base Hospital, and then onto Mareeba Hospital, before taking on a GP position in Chiltern (Victoria). Dr Akram relocated to Lightning Ridge with his family in September 2014, and provides GP services Mondays to Fridays, and some Saturdays. Dr Akram also provides on-call GP/VMO services at the Lightning Ridge MPS. Dr Akram holds General/Specialist Medical Registration in Australia and obtained Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) in 2016.
Dr Chaitanya Kada
Dr Kada relocated to the Ridge from the UK in March 2017, and has been practising full time as a GP/VMO since. Dr Kada provides GP services Mondays to Fridays, and some Saturdays and also provides on-call GP/VMO services at the Lightning Ridge MPS. Dr Kada has special interest areas in palliative care, chronic pain management, chronic disease management, in particular Diabetes, and has previously worked in anaesthetics, emergency medicine and general practice in both India and the UK. Dr Kada also Dr Kada holds Specialist Medical Registration in Australia, and has Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP).
Lightning Ridge is in the north of the North West region of NSW near the Queensland border and is affectionately known as ‘The Ridge’. The Yuwaalaraay nation are the traditional custodians of the the land on which Lightning Ridge stands.
The Walgett Shire covers Lightning Ridge, Walgett and Collarenebri as well as the smaller surrounding communities. At the time of the 2016 census the Walgett LGA had a population of 6,107 with Lightning Ridge being the largest town with a population of 2,284 (with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people totalling 517 or 22.7% of this population).
Lightning Ridge is world reknowned for its deposit of Black Opal.

- Lightning Ridge is accessible by car and is approximately 8-9 hours from both Brisbane and Sydney.
- There is no commercial airport at Lightning Ridge. Access by air requires travel from regional centres. The closest regional airports are Moree (approx. 3 hours drive) and Dubbo (approx. 4 hours drive).
- There is a coach to and from Dubbo that runs daily.
The Lightning Ridge community is well served by the Lightning Ridge MPS which has an accident and emergency department, 4 acute care beds, 25 Residential Aged Care beds and an established VMO roster servicing inpatients and the ED.
The RaRMS Health - Lightning Ridge Health Centre is located less than a kilometre from the hospital, making it easy for the GPs working with us to attend the ED when they are on-call at the Hospital and are needed in an emergency.
